FAQs
With a range of dental care options, we always recommend regular dental exams to check on a patient’s teeth, gums, and jaw.
Through dental exams, Dr. Cantu can help protect patients against decay or disease, and appraise their general dental health. With the latest dental exam technology combined with a compassionate and experienced staff, each dental exam at Crown Dental is important to recognize each patient’s individual needs.
Dental exams make it possible for Dr. Cantu to diagnose any diseases or health issues so that we can begin treatment and restore your smile and your dental health to the best they can be.
An oral cancer screening is non-invasive and only takes a few minutes of your appointment time. Using VELscope technology is fast and painless, and can detect cancer not visible to the naked eye.

Our professional dental staff at Crown Dental takes digital X-rays to ensure the health of each patient’s teeth, bones, and surrounding tissues at their annual dental exam.
Through digital intraoral or extraoral x-rays, Dr. Cantu and his staff can find dental issues such as cavities, cysts, abscesses, impacted teeth, and bone loss.
The x-rays offered are the Periapical, focusing on the entire tooth, the Bite-Wing, showing the lower and upper back teeth, and the Panoramic reveals the teeth, jaws, and sinuses, and the Occlusal centers on the bite of the upper or lower jaw.
Along with regular dental exams, patients should be receiving professional, routine dental cleanings at Crown Dental at least twice a year.
Dr. Walberto Cantu, recommends regular dental cleanings to get rid of tartar and plaque, break up and remove decay, and prevent infections and cavities.
These dental cleanings are important for the overall dental health of every patient. To achieve the healthiest, brightest smile possible, every patient should schedule regular dental cleanings at Crown Dental in West Richland, WA.
At Crown Dental we offer scaling and root planing to remove plaque and tartar from beneath the gum line. Also called deep periodontal cleaning, SRP cleans out the plaque and tartar that can build up in the gum pockets, where the teeth and gums meet. This build-up can cause a bacterial infection or periodontal disease.
If the gum pockets grow to be deeper than 5 millimeters, then SRP is performed. Dr. Walberto Cantu, or one of his trained dental hygienists, will clean out the plaque and tartar and then plane over or smooth out the tooth to prevent future issues.
Dr. Cantu suggests scaling and root planing to restore the health of your gums and prevent further build-up.
Dr. Wally Cantu offers an easy sealant treatment at Crown Dental to help protect patients against plaque, tartar, tooth decay, and oral diseases.
Made of plastic resin, sealants are quickly applied to the chewing surface of teeth in a straightforward process that takes little time.
If patients take care of their teeth with reliable oral health care habits, sealants can last several years.
Sealants are a valuable treatment even for those with a strong dental routine, as they protect against diseases and decay that are unaffected by regular brushing. Most frequently applied to the premolars and molars, sealant treatment at Crown Dental is simple, brisk, and can help protect your oral health in enormous ways.
Regular fluoride treatments in the dental office can help prevent the start and growth of dental decay. The application takes only a few minutes and provides enormous benefits.
On occasion, those who are at high-risk for dental decay may receive fluoride applications more frequently, and/or be asked to use prescription-strength fluoride toothpaste at home in addition to in-office treatments.
