Procedure Details

This patient had her upper wisdom tooth extracted and never removed the lower wisdom tooth. During her dental examination it was noted that her lower tooth grew into the space where her missing tooth was originally. We see this scenario happen frequently especially in the first molar and second molar sites which become more problematic as far as restorative options. Thankfully for this patient it was a wisdom tooth that was giving him sensitivity and also had decay. I recommended an extraction which the patient agreed to treatment. If you are missing a first molar or second molar I would recommend to replace the missing tooth as you can have shifting of neighboring teeth and in some instances have supra eruption just like this case where it can have bite issues and tooth sensitivity and also increase risk to root decay because the root is exposed with no enamel insulation.
