Richland Patient is diagnosed with Oral Lichen Planus after Oral cancer screen.
Oral Lichen Planus Richland Pt
Richland patient came in for a routine dental examination to Crown Dental. During my routine oral cancer pre-screening I discovered what looked like Oral Lichen Planus clinically. Oral lichen planus is an autoimmune disease that can have different variations in its presentation like "erosive" or "reticulated." This patient had been going to his dental examinations and physician check-up and was never brought up to him of his condition. This is something that can unfortunately go undiagnosed because it very often presents with no symptoms. In very rare cases oral lichen planus can turn into oral cancer especially in patients which present with the "erosive" type. Treatment for OLP currently is only treating symptoms. There is currently no cure. We did place this patient on some Corticosteriod ointments to help improve the presentation of it. In the second picture you can see some improvement after using the prescribed medication. If you haven't seen your dentist recently please make an appointment with Crown Dental to have your oral cancer screening. More
